Arkansas Advanced Energy Association Welcomes Summer Intern

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 23, 2024) – The Arkansas Advanced Energy Association (AAEA) is excited to announce the addition of Amelia Southern-Uribe as its summer intern. Southern-Uribe, a rising senior at the University of Arkansas, is pursuing degrees in advertising/public relations and political science, with a minor in sustainability.

Southern-Uribe has been extensively involved in campus and community events, including founding the first Arkansas chapter of This is Zero Hour, which has since expanded to four chapters across the state. Her interests lie in strategic communication within the environmental and energy sectors. As the founder and editor-in-chief of Roots Magazine, Southern-Uribe uses art and media to broaden access to environmental education. Her career goals include addressing environmental issues and communication in Southern and rural areas.

During her internship, Southern-Uribe will assist in coordinating communications, developing an independent special project, and utilizing her strategic communication and policy expertise to advance Arkansas’ communities.

Southern-Uribe has received numerous accolades, including being named a 2023 Udall Scholar, a 2024 Truman Scholar Finalist, and a 2024 Aspen Future Climate Leader. She also serves on various boards, including the Arkansas Environmental Education Association and Audubon’s Arkansas Environmental Policy Summit.
