Members of the Arkansas Advanced Energy Association (AAEA) are eligible for a 10% discount to participate in an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Plain Talk course June 2-4, 2015, hosted by Southwest Power Pool (SPP), headquartered in West Little Rock. The course will focus on understanding technical aspects of the electric power industry.

Interested AAEA members should contact shelly@arkansasadvancedenergyfoundation.org to receive the discount code.

IEEE courses are designed for power industry professionals with and without an engineering background. Participants will gain insights into the concerns of engineers, the demands of regulators and consumer groups, and the factors and trends that impact the operation  of today’s electric power systems. The course is also appropriate for new engineers to the industry, or for engineers in other fields who are transitioning to the electric power industry. The Plain Talk course will increase a participant’s understanding of the electric power system by providing practical knowledge that can be used while working in or with this important industry.

Each day’s course will focus on different aspects of the industry.  On June 2nd the topic will be Power System Basics – Understanding the Electric Utility Operation Inside and Out. On June 3rd, the topic will be Distribution System – Delivering Power to the Customer, and on June 4th the class will be Transmission System – The Interconnected Bulk Electric.

Each day begins at 7:30 am with continental breakfast and registration. Each course runs from 8 am to 5 pm following breakfast. These courses are eligible for CEU/PDH continuing education credit.
